TVDSB Trustee Candidate Survey - Knute Dohnberg

On September 14th, I emailed the London candidates for Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) Trustee.  As outlined in a previous blog post, this was done to provide more exposure to this important position and to give Londoners an opportunity to get more insight into the candidates.

Why do you want to be a school board trustee?
Ever since I got involved with a fundraising campaign at my old London high school, I started to appreciate just how many problems exist within Ontario’s public education model. This led me to get actively involved with the school’s alumni association. This, in turn, has nurtured an even greater interest in how the TVDSB exercises its’ mandate.

What do you consider to be the most important role of a school board trustee?
A school board trustee represents not only the taxpayer, but also every student in the TVDSB system and their (rightfully concerned) parents. This is what needs to guide a trustee’s actions, in his or her role as a decision-maker, on their behalf and for their benefit.

What do you believe to be the most important issue for the TVDSB to address over the next four years?
The balancing of the pros and cons involved with the present school closing initiatives, especially as they relate to the rural areas which TVDSB serves, and where a school closing affects the entire local community.

What skills and experience do you have that qualify you to be a school board trustee?
I have served on a number of Boards, some of which were responsible for budgets involving millions of dollars. I refer you to my ‘Personal Profile’ which refers to a few of them. And I have been on ‘both sides of the fence’ at the Board level............both as a member of several Boards and as a CEO responsible TO a Board.

How can voters get in touch with you for more information?
Until I set up an election website, an e-mail to knute@primus.ca is best. My cell is 519.670.6021.
